MUNICIPAL CREMATORIUM ZWICKAU

Dead prisoners from the Flossenburg sub camp of Johanngeorgenstadt were either taken back to the main camp or to the municipal crematorium of Zwickau for cremation.

65 dead prisoners from the Flossenburg sub camp of Zwickau were found in October 1945 in 4 mass graves in the Friedhof of Zwickau-Eckersbach. It appears that they were buried here and not cremated after the an air attacks on the gas works in October 1944 and March 1945 put the town cermatorium out of action. It would also seem that before this some bodies were burned in the crematroium.

It seems about 280 prisoners from this sub camp died, but many of the seriously ill had been returned already to Flossenburg. The last big transport back to Flossenburg was on March 27, 1945 (153)
