KL FLOSSENBURG

Flossenburg camp had its own crematorium from May 1940. Prior to this prisoners were sent to municipal crematorium in Selb.

Within 3 weeks of opening Flossenburg had its first dead prisoner; a baker Josef Herzner who died on 21 May 1938. Three days later a death notice was issued by the Resgistar office of Flossenburg town through SS doctor Walter Weyand without detail and instructions. The body was burned on 24 May in Selb. The ashes were buried in an anonymous grave on the state cemetary of Selb.

Even once Flossenburg obtained its own crematorium death notices were issed by the Flossenburg Registrar until September 1942 when Flossenburg camp became its own registrar.
